We are pleased to announce the “Takaoka Traditional Crafts Exhibition” at Japan Traditional  Crafts Aoyama Square in Akasaka, Tokyo.

●Exhibition
Approximately 30 pieces will be on display, including exquisite Takaoka copperware and Takaoka lacquerware by our members, as well as stationery, decorative items, and other everyday small items.

●Technique Introduction
We will screen videos demonstrating our members’ techniques and exhibit the tools and materials they use in their daily work.

 

●Experience Classes
Our “experience classes” are extremely popular every year. Space is limited, so please apply early if you are interested. (See the bottom of the page for details.)

Experience classes will be held every day during the exhibition, with either copperware or lacquerware. Two members will be present at all times.

Takaoka Traditional Skills Hands-on Workshop

 

Would you like to try your hand at the craft of Takaoka copperware and Takaoka lacquerware?
Pre-registration is prioritized. Same-day participation is possible if there are spaces available.

Participation Fee: ¥3,850 (materials included)
Maximum participants: 4 per session

[Mother-of-pearl inlay experience (Takaoka lacquerware)]

Create your own original mother-of-pearl tray  or pendant  with a design of your choice using the blue shell lacquering technique.
After the shell is polished and the top coat is applied, it will be delivered approximately one and a half months later. Shipping is cash on delivery, so customers are responsible for shipping costs.

○Dates: December 5th (Friday), 6th (Saturday), 7th (Sunday), 8th (Monday)
○Start Times: ① 11:15 AM – ② 2:00 PM – ③ 4:30 PM – *Only ① and ② are available on the 5th. ○Experience Duration: Approximately 2 hours

[Metalworking Experience (Takaoka Copperware)]

 

Create small plates and other items by applying pictures and patterns to tin sheets.
Because it’s a soft metal, it can be bent and used.
You can use it as a plate for serving sweets and other dishes, or as an accessory tray.
Your creations will be given to you on the spot.

○Dates: December 9th (Tuesday), 10th (Wednesday), and 11th (Thursday)
○Start Times: ① 11:15 AM – ② 1:30 PM – ③ 3:00 PM – ④ 4:30 PM –
*Only ②, ③, and ④ will be available on the 9th.
○Duration: Approximately 1 hour
